Magnetic coupling, also known as permanent magnetic coupling, is a transmission method that connects a motor and another device using permanent magnetic force. It is commonly used in magnetic-driven pumps to transport corrosive, volatile, flammable, explosive, and toxic solutions without leakage. A permanent magnetic coupling consists of an external coupling, an internal coupling, and a containment shroud (spacer sleeve). The introduction of permanent magnetic coupling has effectively addressed the leakage issues associated with dynamic sealing in certain mechanical devices.

Permanent magnetic coupling operates by utilizing the power generated by permanent magnets, eliminating the need for an external power supply. These magnets are permanent magnets, not electromagnets, and are installed in an alternating pattern between poles in a side-by-side and opposing position.
Â
Material Selection:
Magnet: The choice of magnet depends on the working temperature and corrosion resistance requirements.
NdFeB – Suitable for temperatures up to 150°C. Requires corrosion protection.
Ceramic – Suitable for temperatures up to 250°C. Does not require corrosion protection.
SmCo – Suitable for temperatures up to 350°C. Corrosion protection is optional.
Â
Housing: Options include normal carbon steel, stainless steel (304, 316, 416, etc.), and nickel super alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel, etc.).
Spacer sleeve: Options include stainless steel, nickel super alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel, etc.), plastics (Nylon, Teflon, etc.), and ceramics.
